It's been a hot minute since I have gotten on here, sometimes I just post abbreviated thoughts on Facebook and call it good. However, today I am going to write the full thought that came to my head and heart today.
To give some context, I have a dear friend who is married and although she married him as a Christian and he was not, she was only about 6 weeks into her faith when they got married. This was a few years ago now and at this point in the story, he has not come to faith in Jesus that I am aware of. We continue to pray that he will soon surrender his life to Jesus. This writing is pointed to him, he may never even see it, but the reason I had this show up in my thoughts is because I would say this to him if given the opportunity.
Here are my thoughts from earlier today:
When it is close to a birthday or a big holiday, we kind of go a bit over the top and try to think of a really good gift that we can give to that special person in our life. We think about it, look at our budget, go shopping, make the purchase and wrap the gift and in some cases wrap it to the hilt. I am not aware of many people who are a recipient of such a gift that just leave it sit on the table or under the tree unopened. Imagine that, would you just look at a gift day after day, know it is for you and know it can be opened at will and you continue day after day after day just walking by and not opening the gift? What if what is in there could change the whole trajectory of your life? Would knowing that make you curious and eventually give up and open it?
That is exactly what is there. Jesus is offering such a gift and left unopened you will never know what changes could have happened to make your life so much better. Rejecting a gift that could make all the difference in your life now and in the next life (because we all have eternity in our hearts, even it we try to think we don't) would be a really disappointing and outright foolish thing to do.
I was going to say that I wished this illustration wasn't so obvious, but really, this illustration is very obvious. It isn't complicated. It is as simple as picking up that beautifully wrapped package, opening it and accepting it as your own. It was meant for you, it was picked out especially for you. Please don't hesitate any longer in opening up the gift. It is meant as that and it was meant for you!
